sustainability

The Running Kind is focused on moving sport to zero carbon, starting at our core, with local trail events. We do this through the further development of sustainable practices in event planning and event operations as well as pursing proper offsetting procedures to ensure carbon neutrality. It is our mission to impact the environment positively, both nationally & locally as well as further educate our local community.

  • Events in nature are not sustainable given the transportation to and from. As this is not something that will ever reduced to zero, we offset this transportation.

When you sign up for an event with The Running Kind through Utrasignup, you must include your address. Each event we calculate the total miles, average emissions per mile & determine the total carbon footprint for transportation. This calculation, alongside other measurements determines how much we need to offset each event.

A portion of your registration fee goes towards this offset purchase to ensure that we are achieving carbon neutrality for each event.

  • The largest footprint contributor is transportation & waste, however we know it is important to improve our event practices. We have migrated towards fully reusable materials including but not limited to: bibs, course marking materials, signage. Each event our particpants and staff sort waste into compost, recycling, terracycling & waste. We hope to continue improving our event practices and innovating to lessen our footprint.

  • As sustainability is one of our core values, it is important to us that we partner with other organizations making a commitment to the environment. In addition to partnering with brands within the running industry that are dedicated to sustainable practices and products, we also prioritizes our partnerships with local nonprofits. Each event we partner with a different nonprofit to raise funds and awareness for.

The Long Run - Jacobsburg Environmenal Educaion Center

Climb It For Climate - The Catskill Center

C’mon Armageddon - New York New Jersey Trail Conference

The Running Kind is proud to achieve carbon neutrality for our first year of operations, 2023, through Change Climate Project. Through their intensive and respected verification process we can officially say we are carbon neutral certified! For 2023, offsets were purchased through Native Energy, BEF & SeaTrees.
